In this interview, Sophie shares insights into her daily work as Head of Operation Products (non-radioactive) at ROTOP, her career journey from quality management into a leadership role, and what makes her work in the pharmaceutical environment so meaningful – from teamwork and responsibility to its impact on patients.

What does your typical workday look like?
My day usually starts with a quick catch-up with the team – often over a cup of coffee. During our morning meeting, we align on priorities, discuss tasks, and openly address any challenges or outstanding issues. As Head of Operation Products, I am responsible for the manufacturing of non-radioactive products. This includes batch record reviews, handling deviations, CAPAs, and Annex 1 topics. At the same time, I am always available to support my team and respond quickly to questions or problems.

What was a defining step in your career?
A key milestone for me was moving from Quality Management into the role of Head of Manufacturing. It came with greater responsibility, but also gave me the opportunity to bring my quality management expertise directly into production and actively shape processes.

Have there been moments you were particularly proud of?
Yes – whenever a batch can be released. Those moments make it clear what we have achieved together as a team and that our work ultimately reaches patients. Knowing that gives my role a real sense of purpose.

What makes working at ROTOP special to you?
The work is incredibly varied – every day brings new challenges and opportunities to find solutions. Despite the company’s growth, ROTOP still feels like a close-knit organisation, with strong collaboration across departments. Supporting one another is simply part of our culture, especially when things become challenging.

How would you describe the company culture?
Everyone works together with one common goal: improving patients’ lives. You can truly feel that in everyday work.

Which values are important to you in your professional life?
A positive working environment, mutual appreciation, and trust. To me, these are the foundations of a team that functions well and achieves great things together.

How do you maintain a healthy work–life balance?
I find balance mainly outdoors. As a passionate road cyclist, I enjoy spending time on my bike, sometimes on longer rides. Equally important to me is spending quality time with family and friends to unwind and recharge.

How do you experience collaboration within the team?
Very positively. I have a great relationship with colleagues, both within my own department and across the company. Support is always there when needed.

What motivates you in your day-to-day work?
Often, it’s the small things – a friendly start to the day or working together as a team. I try to pass that positive attitude on to others as well.

How did you join ROTOP?
During my Master’s studies at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf in the field of radiopharmaceutical and chemical biology, I established my first connections with ROTOP. Since I had always wanted to work in the pharmaceutical industry, joining the company felt like the natural next step. Since then, I have continuously developed both professionally and personally and now hold a leadership position.

How have you developed since then?
I have grown both personally and professionally, particularly through stepping into a leadership role. My goal is to continue developing in this position and to expand the impact I can make.

What advice would you give to others?
Not everything has to be perfect from the very beginning. What matters is staying committed, learning from mistakes, and continuously developing yourself. Curiosity and confidence in your own abilities will take you far.
