ROTOP Pharmaka GmbH today announced that it has received the building permit for a new radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Dresden. The approval represents a major step in the company’s growth strategy and further strengthens its position as a leading radiopharmaceutical partner in Europe.
The new facility, to operate as the ROTOP CMO Center, will expand ROTOP’s capabilities as a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO). With more than 25 years of experience in radiopharmaceuticals, ROTOP already supports pharmaceutical companies with development, manufacturing and supply of cGMP-grade APIs and cold kits, as well as therapy doses for Phase I and Phase II clinical studies.
The new industrial-scale site is designed to manufacture cGMP radiopharmaceutical therapy doses for Phase III trials and commercial supply. By combining deep radiochemistry expertise with automated, high-throughput manufacturing, ROTOP aims to support pharmaceutical partners across the full development lifecycle—from preclinical stages through commercialization—while simplifying the transition from mid-stage development to market supply.
“The building permit is a critical milestone in executing our growth strategy,” said Jens Junker, CEO of ROTOP Pharmaka GmbH. “The ROTOP CMO Center will provide the infrastructure needed to efficiently bring innovative radiopharmaceutical therapies into late-stage development and commercial use.”
The facility will serve one of the fastest-growing therapeutic areas in oncology, as a growing number of radioligand programs advance toward commercialization benefiting patients who suffer from various cancers. ROTOP’s location near Europe’s largest DHL logistics hub in Leipzig enables just-in-time delivery of radioactive therapy doses to clinical and commercial sites.
“Dresden’s radiopharmaceutical sector continues to grow and gain international relevance,” said Jan Pratzka, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, Digitalization, Human Resources and Public Order, City of Dresden. “ROTOP’s planned investment is further proof of the potential this future-oriented industry holds for the city and the region. It also continues a Dresden success story — from a spin-off to a globally active company.”
The project is supported by investors including GENUI, SHS Capital, MBG Sachsen, and Wachstumsfonds Mittelstand Sachsen.
With this expansion, ROTOP reinforces its commitment to advancing precision medicine by enabling reliable, large-scale manufacturing and supply of innovative radiopharmaceutical therapies for pharmaceutical innovators to benefit patients.
